# The Box: Honeycomb in your VPC or on premises

The Box is Honeycomb packaged to run in infrastructure you control: your own AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure account, your own data center, or an air gapped site. It contains everything needed to process menu data, from Honeycomb's models to the admin dashboard, depending on the size you choose.

## What is inside (four layers)

- **Applications:** admin dashboard, guest menu web app, website menu plugin, Sous assistant.
- **Menu processing:** vision language model, large language model, ingestion pipeline, Honeycomb API (REST and MCP).
- **Honeycomb models:** food intelligence model (ingredients, allergens, diets), nutrition model, deterministic allergen verifier.
- **Platform:** menu database, encrypted file storage, append only audit log, single sign on with your identity provider.

## Four boxes

- **Complete:** all of Honeycomb inside your walls. Every application, model, and service. Best for groups replacing their menu platform end to end. Runs air gapped.
- **Pipeline:** menu files in, structured data out. Vision and language models plus Honeycomb's models behind an API, no apps. Best for teams with their own apps. Runs air gapped.
- **Compact:** Honeycomb's models and the vision model in the box; language model calls go to an endpoint you already approve (for example your own Azure OpenAI or Bedrock account). Smaller hardware. Runs air gapped if your language model is local.
- **Core:** just the Honeycomb models behind one API. Send item names and descriptions, get ingredients, allergens, diets, and nutrition. The lightest box. Runs air gapped.

## Delivery

Signed container images with a Helm chart or Terraform module, on Kubernetes or virtual machines. Offline update bundles for air gapped sites. Steps: scope, install with your team, security review and test with your menus, then operate with signed updates you schedule.

## Cost

The Box costs more than Honeycomb Cloud because running in your environment takes significant dedicated engineering time for packaging, sizing, installation, security review, and upgrades. Every box is scoped and priced per engagement.
